What is your favorite t-shirt of all time? If you’re anything like us over here at tyd.com, it’s probably something old and tattered, but with so much sentimental value that you’d rather never wear a shirt again than throw it away. Well, what if you could turn it into something equally as dope, save the environment, protect your new Macbook pro, and feel good about helping former victims of sex-trafficking? Wait, did you hear that? That’s the sound of knocking out four birds with one very yuppie stone, and you know we’re all about multitasking here.
Hello Rewind is a NYC based social enterprise that doing some cool stuff with your old and maybe not so cool t-shirts. Here is how it works: you send them your old, throwback, irreplaceable t-shirt from way back when. They work their magic and in a few weeks, your old shirt is upcycled into a brand new laptop sleeve. What is unique is that the sleeves are sewn and assembled by women who have survived the sex-trafficking underground, many of whom don’t have many marketable skills to help them reintegrate into society. So your purchase of a Hello Rewind laptop sleeves give them some livelihood and your raggedy-ass t-shirt a second chance at life. The sleeves come in three sizes, have a velcro closure, and are priced at $49, which is pretty reasonable given their business model. If you’re starting to get embarrassed about wearing your intramural softball champs t-shirt from junior year in public, but you still want folks to know that you can still jack ‘em out the park with a couple beers in you, then consider sending the shirt to these folks.
